Acne Scar Treatments

Acne is something that is very hard to deal with when you are a teenager, trying to make it through the battle of high school. It can be humiliating and troublesome, leaving the opportunity for ridicule. So after taking the steps to rid the acne, what is one to do when scars are left behind? Acne scar treatments can be found in many forms, some of which are home remedies.

Although some treatments may not remove acne scars altogether, they are known to help repair them and make them less visible. In reality, it all will depend on the type and severity of the acne scars. With that said, some acne scar treatments are easy to try, and the rest of this article will give you some suggestions.

Chemical peels have been known as one of many effective acne scar treatments. This type of treatment can remove and improve small, depressed scars. It can also help in aiding the removal of current acne. Multiple treatments may be necessary to see the results you may be after.

Dermabrasion is another one of the available treatments that will help to treat and heal deeper acne scars. It gets deep down into the facial tissue, helping to improve acne scar visibility tremendously. You can also look into laser treatment if you have the time and money to choose this route in acne scar treatments. It will surely offer a huge difference in the way your skin looks, offering relief from small, big, and even very deep acne scars.

And last but not least, soft tissue augmentation is something to think about as well. This type of treatment will help to correct the loss of skin cells due to acne scarring, making the skin appear and feel smoother and healthier. It will also help to rid of any remaining acne scars that may be visible.

If you plan to try home remedies, make sure that you are not paying for the information to do so. You can find free information on the Internet which gives you the opportunity to easily try the acne scar treatments without putting a lot of money into it. This is important as some acne scar treatments that are home treatments will not work, and nothing is more disappointing than pouring a bunch of hard earned money into something that will just let you down. By trying the home acne scar treatments one by one, you can decide which works best for you and stick with it, as home treatments will probably take longer than the treatments described above, but they save money and results should be seen as the treatments go on.

Acne Cleansers

When I was 15, I was traumatized by my acne. I tried all kinds of acne cleansers, as well as other topical treatments, and even some internal junk, but nothing seemed to work. It was a terrible time in my life. I was just starting to try to talk to girls, and looking for a girlfriend, but my terrible complexion made me feel afraid to even approach them. I don't know if it was my imagination or not, looking back on it, but it seemed that none of them were at all interested, and that no one wanted to talk to me. It might have been adolescent insecurity, but all of the acne cleansers that I used seemed to do nothing, and my self-esteem continued to plummet.

Then I realized that acne cleansers would never take care of the problem, and that I would have to take care of it myself. My father sat me down and told me that, at my age, he had the same problem. There was the paralyzing insecurity, the acne cleansers, the various concoctions and treatments, the girl craziness. Then, he finally found something that worked.

It wasn't the acne cleansers; no acne cleanser can really do anything to completely halt teenage insecurity. It was a matter of taking himself in hand, and realizing that he could do anything that he set his mind to, and that he was good enough just as he was.

Personally, I thought that this was a bunch of hokum when I first heard it, and I decided to keep trying the acne cleansers. Sure enough, eventually I found one that worked just fine, and did help me out a little, but not enough to really cure all of my acne. Then I realized that, alone acne cleansers weren't really enough. My dad had been right about that part! I needed something more.

The answer, of course, was proper diet. Once I started to exercise regularly and eat less greasy food, my acne began to really clear up. I can not say that it went away completely right away. That would be ridiculous. But it did get steadily better, until it was really not that bad. And you know what, self-esteem is great, but a good complexion and a manly physique is even better. I've been grateful to my dad for many things, but his advice about acne cleansers was never one of those things.

How to Use Make Up Properly to Cover Your Acne

Ok, so your new acne medication promises fast results in 7 days, but you've got to put your best face forward today. Is there anything you can do besides stepping out your front door wearing a ski mask?

You bet there is! All you need is to learn a few creative acne makeup concealing tips to help you look your very best at school work or play. Please remember, makeup only conceals acne, it does not cure it! But you already knew that right? Using makeup to conceal acne isn't difficult, but there are some basic rules that you should always follow.

Your Basic Acne Makeup Toolkit

Your three acne hiding makeup weapons will be a concealer, a foundation and a finishing powder. Stay away from the dollar store and use only brand names that you can trust. It isn't worth it to try and save a little money using the off brand products. There not as good.

Choose only oil-free makeup products that match your skin tone. Oil-free is the key to success here so read the labels carefully. You don't want to aggravate your existing acne problem by layering a fresh coat of oil on skin that already has too much to begin with. Choose a hypoallergenic brand while you're at it.

If this is the first time that you are using a new brand, test the makeup by applying small dabs to a spot under your jaw to see how your skin reacts. If you are going to have a problem you will know within an hour or so after applying it. Nothing is worse than adding more blotches to an already colorful face.

Before You Begin

Wash your face with your normal face cleansing product and pat dry. Apply your acne medication per the instructions and let it dry thoroughly.

Start With the Concealer

Apply the concealer in a light dabbing motion directly to any dark blotches or red areas that the acne has produced on your skin. Blend the concealer in using a disposable facial sponge. Use the concealer sparingly. You can always apply more if you need it but you don't want to layer it on too thickly. It will terrible when it dries.

Next, Apply the Foundation

The next step is to apply the foundation sparingly as well and use a light dabbing motion here too. Blend the foundation with your sponge and reapply to any areas that need it.

And Now For the Final Touch

Apply a light layer of the oil-free powder using a large makeup brush. This will take care of any shine that the acne concealer and foundation left behind and it will give you an even and finished look.

Throw away the disposable sponges when your are through so you don't transfer yesterday's skin oil to tomorrow's clean face!

Before You Go To Bed

Wash your face thoroughly to remove all makeup before you do to bed, but preferable as soon as you can after you return home. You want your skin to breath and your acne to get as much fresh air as possible.

Girls, Puberty and Acne

Girls go through many physical and psychological changes during puberty. These changes include body composition, fat distribution, menstruation, growth spurts, body and facial hair growth, body odor and skin changes. The body physically changes as the fat tissue increases in the hips, thighs, and breasts producing the typical hourglass shape of females. With all these changes going on, what effect does acne have on girls during puberty?

During puberty girls experience an increased likelihood and severity of acne from the increased oil secretions in the skin. Puberty is often a difficult time and acne only adds to the difficulty. During puberty girls usually experience increased irritability, mood swings, and feelings of low self esteem. Even girls who have been very sure of themselves may suffer from low self esteem when puberty sets in. These changes may be even more severe in the girl also suffers from acne.

The negative changes in girls during puberty are made even worse if acne is a problem. You can help deal with the changes when you know how to lessen the problems of acne.

Practical Acne Treatments For Girls...

Proper skin care is the first step in treating acne. The face should be gently washed with a facial cleanser. There are many skin care products on the market that may help with acne. To kill the bacteria that cause acne the cleanser should contain salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide or sulfur. Gentle cleansing is an important factor when dealing with acne. A common mistake is to clean the face too often and with harsh cleansers. Careful cleaning of the face twice a day is the best way to go.

There are some cosmetics that can be detrimental if you are trying to control acne so it is important to use non-comedogenic products. Non-comedogenic products are less likely to cause acne, blackheads or block the pores of the skin. Today there are many non-comedogenic products available, such as makeup, lip stick, moisturizers, and even acne medicated makeup.

The changes experienced during puberty can take a mental and physical toll on girls. The onset of acne certainly makes these changes even harder to deal with. It is a good idea to visit with a dermatologist if the acne can not be controlled with over-the-counter medications. A dermatologist will understand the changes that are associated with acne and will be able to offer advice and treatment programs. It's also important to be understanding and offer support to girls as they go through the difficult time of puberty.
